Would n't it be refreshing to hear fatty say "We started very poorly and only Adrian kept us in it early on. I got it wrong starting with Nolan at the tip of the diamond especially when he missed two sitters. We've won 2 in 12 in the league so next week I may shake it up and start Morgan and Poyet who's been dying to get some playing time and earned his chance. Oh and thanks to the magnificent support again sorry we could not give you at least a point from the game.

The real problem is that, technically, the manager has already delivered an improvement on last season, so he's met the terms of his contract and not only can he take his foot off the gas, he can get out of the car and wander around doing a bit of sightseeing for the remaining games.
If he "over-over achieves", he'll simply be making a rod for his own back as he'll be giving himself an even higher target to aim for if he's asked to improve on THIS season.
